Today meaning is often lost and along with it the demand for superior craftsmanship. Kim connects history with stunning handwork, distancing her collection from jewelry that is solely about “bling”. Kim is reviving the notion of a family heirloom and with it the value of remembering those we cherish, generation-to-generation. Despite this being a very old fashioned notion, Kim believes there is something fresh and contemporary about reclaiming jewelry as an object of profound personal meaning and significance.

Kim Kaufman is a fine artist by training, having earned a BA in literature from Tufts University, a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and a MFA in sculpture from the Maryland Institute, College of Art.

Kim approaches jewelry with the eye of an artist. Integrating ancient symbols, sacred geometry and universal forms, she carves into each work a rich meaning that is completed by the story of those who wear her collection. Historically, jewelry has been a symbol, a physical emblem, connecting the individual to a significance greater than oneself. Each collected piece is imbued with a part of the story, our personal story, reflecting the traditions and feelings we hold dear. These intimacies, bonds, generosities, courageous acts, accomplishments, joys and memories of those who share in these moments mark us and are carried upon us. Jewelry, this chosen adornment, reveals the wearer to themselves as well as to others.
